*New Unit (6 weeks) – Extreme Earth! We are moving from History focused projects to Science focused projects! For this unit’s big project, students will have 2 parts to complete: produce a slideshow presentation, and conduct a science experiment (see attached document). For their literature book, students will be reading Nation (if you like dry humor, we recommend you read this book too!). Students will also do a unit on Poetry. Ask your student what topic they chose for their presentation!
*Family Harvest Farm (1/3 of class): We are continuing trips to the farm by sending out 15 students at a time. We will need drivers for these trips. Please look at the list to see when your student will be going, and email us if you can drive. Drivers need to be at campus by 9:40am, and we will leave the farm to come back to campus around 11:45am. Drivers need to have a copy of their 100,000/300,000 liability car insurance on file in the office to drive. Students not attending the farm will do EE assignments at school.
The last Yosemite payment is due this January 22, 2026. Thank you to those who already paid in full!! Yosemite is a little over a month away! Students & chaperones who are attending should be gathering their gear.

- Writing: Students will begin a Poetry/Writing Unit in class this week. They will be assigned many in–class and overnight assignments throughout the next 6 weeks. These assignments will not be posted online ahead of time, but they will be a large part of their learning and will be scored. Make sure they are in class every day!
- Current Events #1:Find an article related to our theme (EXTREME EARTH). After you read it, write a three paragraph summary of the article: due Thursday
- Membean (45 minutes a week); due Friday
- Literature Book (Nation) Assignments: read required chapters (pacing guide), RJW (one per week), Reflections (one per week), Assessment on reading; all due Friday
- Writer’s Workshop: creating and working on portfolio (yearlong project due): finished project due in April
- Math: Khan, CPM, Math Review, Math Projects, Desmos, Assessments,
etc; various due dates - Science (Convection & Air Pressure): participation, activities/worksheets, labs, etc: assignments due on Science day
- Extreme Earth Unit Project (see attached document): choose groups, topics & start researching
