Announcements (Important – please read):
1. Mock Interviews this Friday, February 28th from 8:20~9:20am (before the farm). We NEED volunteers to come for an hour to have informal “job” interviews with 3-5 students per adult (depending on how many volunteers we get). We will give you everything you need to do this fun activity. Please let us know if you can help!! This is a great opportunity for you to meet some of your student’s peers

2. EE small group trips to Family Harvest Farm: Our next trip to the farm is this Friday, February 28th. If your student is going that day, please consider driving! The trip runs from 9:40~12pm. Drivers need to have a copy of their 100,000/300,000 liability car insurance on file in the office to drive. Students not attending the farm will do EE assignments at school
3. Final Los Angeles Payment is due March 3rd. Thank you to those who have paid in full. See attachment for details.
New Unit – Entrepreneur & Shark Tank
This unit is a continuation of Human Centered Design (HCD). Students will now take their design from the HCD unit, continue to refine it – or create a new design – and then go through the process of creating a business. At the end of the unit, students will present their business to the class, and then to a Shark Tank (community members). Students are also learning how to write resumes, will do a mock interview, and will go out and get an internship using the skills they are learning in class. See attached document for details.
- Internships/Job Shadows will take place for 3 days on March 17-19th. Students will not come to school, but go to their “jobs”. Students will have a packet that will need to be filled out by their “employers” and themselves to receive a grade for this project. 8th grade students should seek out a different place of business, doing a different job then they did last year. Please see attached documents for details, including letter to parents, letter to give to potential businesses, and a list of past locations. Past locations that have taken students is not a guarantee they will do it again, but it is a place to start. Students need to tell us where they will be interning by March 10th (including address, days and times).
