Newsletter for Antioch Charter Academy/TLCS Stakeholders

 Volume 29, Issue 2, August 26, 2024

Dear ACA Families,

At ACA we try our best to offer the students a wide variety of learning opportunities that let the students follow their passions.  One way that we do this is with our elective program.  Four days a week Intermediate and Middle School students get the opportunity to experience new topics and pursue interests.  Students can try a broad range of classes from Soccer and World sports, to Re-use Art and Baking.  Not only do the students gain many new experiences in the topic of their choice, but the electives give an opportunity for the families of ACA to become more connected by teaching the elective.

Every trimester we want to give the students a chance to choose any topic that they choose, but unfortunately, that is very difficult to do.  Each teacher can teach one elective every day, but we need more community volunteers to bring their expertise to our school.  We have an amazing network of families that have already brought us fantastic elective teachers that the students love.  Thank you to everyone who has ever volunteered to teach an elective.  It is because of our parent volunteers that the students are able to have such a great opportunity.

Recently, I talked to Middle School students about what classes they would like to take next trimester.  These are the topics that they said; Flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Guitar/ Ukulele, Choir, Arts and Crafts, Woodworking, Science Labs, any type of cooking (very popular), Chess, Movie Making, Photography, or a Second Language. If you have knowledge about any of these topics and have time to teach them one day a week for one hour from 2:00 – 3:00, it would help us out tremendously.  Additionally, if you have any other skills you could teach, that would also be very helpful.  Thank you so much to everyone in advance that will volunteer their time to help our students.

Sincerely,

Mr. Stahler

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Back to School Nights are this week!  BTSN is crucial for parents and guardians because they offer insight into the classroom environment, foster relationships with teachers, and demonstrate to students that their education is a priority. Attending these events helps you understand the curriculum, meet the educators who will be guiding your child, and show support for your student’s learning journey, reinforcing the value you place on their academic experience.  Look at the calendar below for dates and times, and also look for important information in your child’s classroom newsletter!

Wonderful Wednesdays Begin Wednesday, August 28. Students will receive a new, blue, Wonderful Wednesday shirt prior to August 28.  Students can wear their new shirts or an older Wonderful Wednesday shirt.  Please make sure your student’s name is clearly printed on their Wonderful Wednesday shirt.

Remind: This is another way for the school to quickly inform you on what is happening on campus. Never miss another minimum day schedule, or a whole school event.  You can receive messages through email or through texting – you decide!  Look for the email from your student’s classroom for the code – each age grouping has their own!

You MUST order meals in advance in order to receive them or else we may not have a meal available for your student. Breakfast and Supper will be the same for all students, while lunch has a menu that you can choose one entree from. Reminder – no outside food delivery services are allowed on campus.

Absences, Tardies, Leaving Early: If your student will be absent, or tardy, please call the office at 925-755-7311, or email your student’s classroom, before 8:00am. Please make sure to check into the office if your student arrives late. If your student needs to depart early, the person picking up the child must call the office at (925) 755-7311 so the office can retrieve the student prior to walking into the office to sign out their student. Please remember to request an “Independent Study” or “IS” every time you email/call to report an absence.  This helps the school, which helps your student!

Clothes Donation Bin: is a great way to have our unclaimed lost and found items find a new home, and it is actually a form of fund raising for the school. When people donate clothes, the owners of the bin, Tree Machine, will give money to the school. The bin is for clothes only.  Please make sure to bag the clothes before you put them in the bin.  Thank You.
