HOMEWORK
Science – There is a science reading assignment due Thursday called “The Latest Buzz.” In class, students will read the article. There are two questions to answer on Google Classroom.
Math – Did you know there are 3 different math classes in Middle School? Most in-class and all homework assignments will be posted in each math class Google Classroom. Paper assignments may be turned into the classroom and do not need to be attached to Google Classroom. In general, all students will have:
*a daily in class assignment, to be done in class, Monday to Thursday
*a daily homework assignment, due the next day, assigned Monday to Thursday
*20 minutes of Fact Fluency practice per week. Mrs. McCutcheon recommends doing it for 5 minutes per day.
*weekly or every other week quizzes
SPA (Social Political Action Project)
This week students will choose an issue that impacts the health of the ACA2 community, and they will begin to brainstorm how to create positive change to help with the issue.
FANTASTIC FRIDAY This Friday students return to in-person Fantastic Friday! Please remind your student to wear tennis shoes/sneakers, bring a water bottle, and their Personal Safety Belt. Friday shirts with student names should be worn every Friday. New Fantastic Friday shirts will be ordered soon, so new students do not need to wear Friday shirts until they receive one.
Reading (Monday-Thursday)
Students should select an SSR/independent reading book. This can be any book other than books that are primarily picture based (i.e. graphic novels). I have books in the class library that students can borrow, I also highly recommend regular visits to the library.
Students should read for around 1 hour a day, students will have some time at school to work on this assignment on days that they do not have science.
The goal for each student is to complete at least 750 pages read in the first trimester. As soon as a student completes a book they are to either write a book review or complete a book talk presentation in class. Instructions for these assignments are posted on Google Classroom. These assignments are accepted at any time during the trimester.
Page Tracker: I suggest students shoot for at least 15-20 independent reading pages a day Monday through Friday. I will keep a page tracker going in class and in these newsletters so students know roughly where they should be to reach their goal. Students should be on page 75 by next Monday.
Quill (Monday-Thursday)
This week students will be given their Quill.org login information and will take the diagnostic test, it should be completed by Thursday evening.

Complete AOW #1, instructions on Google classroom.

Review AOW #1, Set up Writing by Design Source book.

Calendar Reminder
Aug 29th- Back to School Night from 6:00pm – 7:00pm
All students must have at least one parent representative at the online zoom meeting. This meeting will help you understand our program, and what we will be asking of both your student(s) and you to help them have a successful school year! Even if you have had Middle School students in our classroom in the past, there is always something new to learn!
Sept 2nd- No School (Labor day)
Sept 18th and 19th- Minimum Days
