New Unit “Careers”: This unit will give the students the opportunity to explore different careers, create an individual multi-project on a career which will be presented to the class, and go to a job shadow/internship for 3 days. This unit will require your help. For the project, once your student has chosen a career to do their project on, they will need to do a site visit & an interview. Example: Chosen career is a Pediatric Doctor: site visit to a hospital or a Pediatric doctor’s office, interview a Pediatrician. Students will have a total of 10 Tasks to complete. See attached document for information.
For their literature book, students have been given the choice of either reading “The Giver” or “The Cure”. Each book has its own reading pacing guide and RJW prompts. Make sure to ask your student which book they chose!
Head’s Up:
*Mock Interviews on Tuesday, March 3 from 8:30~9:30am. We need volunteers to come for an hour, or less to run informal mock interviews with 3-4 students per adult. We will give you everything you need to do this fun activity. Please let us know if you can help by Thursday – the more volunteers we have the faster it will go!! This is a great opportunity for you to meet some of your student’s peers
*Family Harvest Farm (1/3 of class): We are continuing trips to the farm by sending out 15 students at a time. We need drivers for these trips. Please look at the list to see when your student will be going, and email us if you can drive. Drivers need to be at campus by 9:35am, and we will leave the farm to come back to campus around 11:45am (drivers do not need to stay, but need to commit to driving us both ways. Drivers need to have a copy of their 100,000/300,000 liability car insurance on file in the office to drive. Students not attending the farm will have regular morning rotations.
3. Internships/Job Shadows will take place March 16, 17, 18th. Students will not come to school, but go to their “jobs”. Students will have a packet that will need to be filled out by their “employers” and themselves to receive a grade for this project (no packet = a zero on their grade). 8th grade students should seek out a different place of business, doing a different job then they did last year. Students must give us the details of their Internship/Job Shadow by March 12th. See attached documents for details, including a letter you can give to a potential job shadow site.

- Writing #1 : Finalize your Resume in the correct format and have PRINTED copies ready to share in mock interviews. There can be no errors and you must stick to one page; due Thursday
- Membean (45 minutes a week); due Friday
- Quote of the Day: Read the quote, then write a reflection; various due dates (see assignment)
- Literature Book (The Giver or The Cure) Assignments: read required chapters (pacing guide), RJW (one per week), Reflections (one per week), Assessment on reading; all due Friday
- Writer’s Workshop: creating and working on portfolio (yearlong project due): finished project due in April
- Math: Khan, CPM, Math Review, Math Projects, Desmos, Assessments,
etc; various due dates - Science: participation, activities/worksheets, labs, etc: assignments due on Science day
