Highlights/Announcements:
BTSN: On Tuesday, August 26 from 6~7pm, please mark Back to School Night for the Middle School Parents on your calendars! All students need to have at least one parent/guardian representative at the meeting. This meeting will help you understand our program, and what we will be asking of both your student and you to help them have a successful school year! You will also hear more about our February trip to Yosemite and receive a packet. This will be the only time we have a meeting about this trip, so make sure you don’t miss it!
Study Trip to iFLY: Our first study trip of the year will take place in September, as part of our Physics unit in Science. We’ll be visiting iFLY for their exciting STEM program designed specifically for middle school students… iFLY STEM Program
Trip cost: $50
Permission form & $50 due this Thursday, August 28th
Transportation: We’ll need parent drivers with proper insurance on file (a minimum of 100,000/300,000 bodily injury coverage) and the ability to transport at least 4 students, so make sure you get your vehicle insurance information to the office.
Dochub: The DocHub forms will be emailed home tomorrow. Please make sure to fill them out, and submit them!
General Permission Form: This summer you received the Family Handbook through email (attached to this newsletter too). Please make sure you fill it out and return it to the office ASAP. Middle School will begin our walks this week, and students who do not have the “General Permission Form”, which was part of the packet, turned in will not be able to participate with the rest of the class until it is returned.

Week 1 – Middle Ages
This week the students are (not an exhaustive list – more may be added)…
Getting set up on their chromebooks
Having large group lessons, and individual classroom assignments on our yearlong concept, “Balance”
Go over how to create a top notch project
Taking assessments (STAR) to see where each student is currently at academically
Introduction to our first theme for this year, “Middle Ages”. Students will have several lessons on this topic, will break up into project groups, and will start researching
Starting their morning rotations (Math, Humanities, IS)
Going over classroom expectations/procedures
Signing up for their afternoon electives, which begin next week.
Will start their Wednesday rotations.
