We want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to our Los Angeles Chaperones: Daniel Soto, Blanca Soto, Jarvis Petty, Pedro Ramos, Erica Rivera, Joy Okeke, Meuy Saelee, Sara Meza, & Kelly MacCallister! They did a wonderful job of helping to keep the students safe, engaging with the students, and helping to keep us to our tight schedule!! We also want to give all of you a BIG THANK YOU for supporting the trip! We absolutely cannot do these trips for your children without you! We hope each student came away from this trip with a broader knowledge & understanding of the world they live in.
Announcements (Important – please read):
1. Young Author’s Night is this Wednesday. Middle School students have been working all year on creating a portfolio of their writing, including reflections for each piece submitted (see attached document for details). Students who do not complete & turn in their Portfolio will receive a 0 on their report card + it will reflect in their Writing grade.
2. EE small group trips to Family Harvest Farm: Our next trip to the farm is this Friday, May 23. If your student is going that day, please consider driving. The trip runs from 9:40~12pm for small groups, and 9:40~12:30 for the whole class. Drivers need to have a copy of their 100,000/300,000 liability car insurance on file in the office to drive. Students not attending the farm will do EE assignments at school.
3. State Testing: State Testing for the middle school class will run May 8~23rd (M, T, Th, F). Testing takes place in the mornings. Please do not schedule appointments, or keep your student at home (unless he/she is really sick), during testing. It is hard on the students to miss testing with their class, then to have to make it up while the rest of the class is learning new concepts. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Week 3 – American History
This Week’s Assignments/Homework: not an exhaustive list…more assignments may be added by teachers through-out the week. Class assignments not finished during class become homework. (students attending LA can turn in assignments on Monday)
- Archive Projects: Students will create a museum piece to teach other students about their topic. Students picked topics and what they are going to create today.
- Commonlit: due Fridays
- CNN10: Watch CNN 10 every day. Complete two thinking routines on a minimum 2 different days per week. Extra credit for connections to theme and concept. Extra credit for completing more than two thinking routines; due Fridays
- Membean: Complete 3 training sessions of 15 minutes each; due Friday
- Literature Book: students can choose a historical fiction book, which takes place before the 1900’s in America; Choose 5 literature circle activities to complete with your book connected to American History. Complete the activity in your RJW in your LC section or on the computer–attach it and submit it. Complete 5 total activities–about one per week; due Fridays
- Writer’s Workshop: assignments in class; due on Workshop day
- Young Author’s/Portfolio: Complete 10 pieces (7th graders) or 16 pieces (8th graders) of writing and 10/16 reflections (see attached document for details) Due Wednesday
- Math: CPM, Khan, POD, Desmos, Math Review, Project, etc- pacing guide with due dates, assessments on Fridays
- Science “Ecosystems”: assignments due on Science day
- Presentation: researching and creating a slideshow. Practice day is tentatively scheduled for May 19th.
