Announcements (Important – please read):
   
1.  Final Unit of the Year: Today we introduced our last unit of the year, American History!  The students formed groups, and picked topics for their presentation (see attached documents).  
The next several weeks are going to be very busy in our classroom!  In addition to their normal weekly assignments, students will:
  *complete a large presentation project
  *complete 2 archive projects for a museum
  *start State Testing 
  *be required to watch CNN10 M, T, Th, & F and complete 2 Thinking Routines every week
  *complete their Young Author’s Portfolio
  *Plus we have 4 more farm trips planned, Los Angeles is next week, and the music classes & Wednesday classes will be gearing up for their end of the year performances!
Please make sure your student comes to school every day.
 
 
2.EE small group trips to Family Harvest Farm: Our next trip to the farm is this Friday, April 25.  If your student is going that day, please consider driving. The trip runs from 9:40~12pm.   Drivers need to have a copy of their 100,000/300,000 liability car insurance on file in the officeto drive.  Students not attending the farm will do EE assignments at school.

3Los Angeles is next week! Make sure you have signed the Dochub for your student to attend Los Angeles. This is required for them to attend. We went over the contract/expectations with the students today in class, but we ask that you go over it with them too.  Please sign and return the form ASAP, then we will have your student sign the form in class. An email with packing information, and other important details will go home this week.
 
Week 1 – American History
 
This Week’s Assignments/Homework: not an exhaustive listmore assignments may be added by teachers through-out the week. Class assignments not finished during class become homework.
  • Summary of Article: Find an article on Newsela connected to your presentation topic or our concept of change or both. Summarize the article on a document. Write  a 1, 2 or 3 paragraph summary; due Thursday
  • CNN10Watch CNN 10 every day. Complete two thinking routines on a minimum 2 different days per week. Extra credit for connections to theme and concept. Extra credit for completing more than two thinking routines; due Fridays
  • Membean:  Complete 3 training sessions of 15 minutes each; due Friday
  • Literature Book: students can choose a historical fiction book, which takes place before the 1900’s in America; Choose 5 literature circle activities to complete with your book connected to American History. Complete the activity in your RJW in your LC section or on the computer–attach it and submit it. Complete 5 total activities–about one per week; due Fridays
  • Writer’s Workshop: assignments in class; due on Workshop day
  • Young Author’s/Portfolio: Complete 10 pieces (7th graders) or 16 pieces (8th graders) of writing and 10/16 reflections (see attached document for details) Due May 7
  • Math: CPM, Khan, POD, Desmos, Math Review, Project, etc- pacing guide with due dates, assessments on Fridays
  • Science “Ecosystems”: assignments due on Science day
  • Presentation: groups formed, topics picked, research started
