Announcements (Important – please read):
1.Internships/Job Shadows are this week for 3 days on March 17-19th.    
Reminder: Students were given a packet (also attached), which needs to be filled out by their “supervisors” and themselves to receive a grade for this project. Even if they do an internship, they will receive a 0 if they do not turn in the completed packet.
2.  Guest Speakers: This Thursday, March 20th we are having 4 business professionals come and share with our students their expertise in their fields (President, Marketing, Manufacturing & Design, and Finance).  Please make sure your student arrives at school on time, for we are starting this activity right away.
3. EE small group trips to Family Harvest Farm: Our next trip to the farm is Friday, March 21st.  If your student is going that day, please consider driving. The trip runs from 9:40~12pm.  Drivers need to have a copy of their 100,000/300,000 liability car insurance on file in the office to drive.  Students not attending the farm will do EE assignments at school.  We scheduled a make up day on Thursday, March 27 for the group who was not able to attend on Feb. 14th.  If you can drive that day, please let us know.
 
4.  SPA (Social Political Action) Groups
  • Mental Health Focus: students in this group are collecting new & gently used backpacks & toiletries for the mental health patients. Students are also running a “Coin War” to raise  Please turn these backpacks in at the office.
  • Hospice Focus:  students are raising money for hospice by having a Taco Bell lunch fundraiser on March 26th.
Week 4 – Entrepreneur & Shark Tank 
This unit is a continuation of Human Centered Design (HCD).  Students will now take their design from the HCD unit, continue to refine it – or create a new design – and then go through the process of creating a business.  At the end of the unit, students will present their business to the class, and then to a Shark Tank (community members). 
This Week’s Assignments/Homework: not an exhaustive listmore assignments may be added by teachers through-out the week. Class assignments not finished during class become homework.
  • Membean:  Complete 3 training sessions of 15 minutes each; due Friday
  • Business Journal: Daily entries; due Fridays
  • Current Events #3-4:  Design & print Marketing Material for your business (business cards, brochures, commercial, etc); due March 20
  • Mentor Meeting: for your group and your business.  Meet with your mentor for 30-60 minutes. Find out about them and share with them your plans for this unit. Record in your business journal notes; due Friday
  • Internship Packet; due Thursday
  • Literature Book “Lunch Money” & Assignments:  assigned chapters read & Golden Lines due by Friday, RJWs & Reflections due Fridays, assessments on Fridays
  • Writer’s Workshop: assignments in class; due on Workshop day
  • Young Author’s/Portfolio: Complete 10 pieces (7th graders) or 16 pieces (8th graders) of writing and 10/16 reflections (see attached document for details)
  • Math: CPM, Khan, POD, Desmos, Math Review, Project, etc- pacing guide with due dates, assessments on Fridays
  • Science “Organ Systems”: participation & assignments; assignments due on Science day
  • Shark Tank (unit finals) – April 7-11th
