Announcements (Important – please read):

1.  EE small grouptripsto Family Harvest Farm: Our next trip to the farm is this Friday, January 24th.  If you student is going that day, please consider driving because we are still in need! The trip runs from 9:40~12pm.  Drivers need to have a copy of their 100,000/300,000 liability car insurance on file in the office to drive.  Students not attending the farm will do EE assignments at school.

  1. San Jose Tech Museum trip on Thursday, January 30th.  This trip will be from 7am ~ 5pm (depending on traffic). Students will need a sack lunch. A BIG THANK YOU to Mr. Sierra offering to drive!

Human Centered Design (HCD) Due Dates – please check in with your student: 

 

Week 1: Research – January 10 (should be done)
Week 2: Draw Blueprint – January 17 (should be done)
Week 3: Create Prototype/Model – January 24
Week 4: Design Cost – January 31
Week 5: Present project to each other (rehearsal) –  February 7
Week 6: Present projects to class/teachers (final grade) – February 11 & 13

Head’s Up: Internships/Job Shadows will take place for 3 days on March 17-19th.  Students will not come to school, but go to their “jobs”.  Students will have a packet that will need to be filled out by their “employers” and themselves to receive a grade for this project. 8th grade students should seek out a different place of business, doing a different job then they did last year. Detailed information will go home on February 3rd.

 

This Week’s Assignments/Homework: not an exhaustive list…more assignments may be added by teachers through-out the week. Class assignments not finished during class become homework.

  • Membean:  Complete 3 training sessions of 15 minutes each; due Friday
  • Writing #2HCD-#3HCD: Use your research from last week AND what you learned in class about other METHODS to research (“Plan Your Research Methods”) to do the following with your team: Pick one challenge to work on as a team, and then answer the following questions on that challenge as a team. Have each team member choose ONE METHOD and do the work to get more information for the team. Due Jan 24 (new date)
  • Literature Book & Assignments: assigned chapters read & Golden Lines due by Friday, RJWs & Reflections due Fridays, assessments on Fridays
  • Ted Talk: find a Ted Talk that connects with your HCD project.  Fill out worksheet with a partner; due Thursday
  • Math: CPM, Khan, POD, Desmos, Math Review, etc- pacing guide with due dates, assessments on Fridays
  • Science “Engineering”: participation & assignments; due on Science day
    • ● Create your invention/design. Using materials that you need, create your design.
      ● Make a prototype that works or a model that is a detailed representation of your design. Accurately reflect your design elements and details seen in blueprint.
      ● Describe the process you went through to make your prototype.
      ● Explain how your group could improve on your design, what would you need to do to make your design more functional? (Use and share peer/mentor advice).
