- Family Flurry of Fun Raffle Basket – We still NEED donations! Each class has been asked to donate a basket for the raffle. Some of the money raised from this raffle goes to pay for the venue for our 8th grade graduation!! The theme for the Middle School basket this year is “Day at the Park”. - Family Harvest Farm (whole class): Our first trip to the farm will be on Friday, December 13th from 9:40~12:40pm. We still need 4-5 parent drivers for this trip. Drivers need to have a copy of their 100,000/300,000 liability car insurance on file in the office (example attached), and need to take a minimum of 3 students. If you can drive, please let us know how many students you can take. Students will need to bring a sack lunch, and will eat at the farm.
- New Theme – Industrial Revolution/Dickens: the students will be studying the Industrial Revolution, including reading the play Oliver Twist or Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Instead of a big project to end the theme, we will be having a Victorian Day, where the students will take what they have been learning, then create a character for themselves to “act out”. Students will learn etiquette, speech, games, dances, & diet from the time, and will come dressed as a Victorian lady, gentlemen, or child. Attached are pictures from previous Victorian Days, so you can get an idea of how the students are expected to dress. Also, there is an article below giving guidelines/ideas too. Please do not go out and spend a lot of money. Start asking family, friends, and previous students if you can borrow items. Second hand stores are also a great place to look. All participants are expected to come in some type of Victorian era clothing, & will be graded on their participation, so don’t put this off! We also have a few pieces of clothing that have been donated over the years. Students who need to borrow can come speak to us to see if we have something they can use for the day. - Secret Santa Exchange: the students have requested to participate in a Secret Santa Exchange the day of our Victorian Party. If you DO NOT want your student to participate, email us ASAP. Students will fill out their forms on Thursday, and draw names on Friday. If your student draws a name, they are OBLIGATED to participate. The students voted on a range of $15-25 for the gift. This activity is optional.

- Math – CPM, Khan, Math Review, other; assorted due dates (see on Google Classroom), assessment usually on Fridays
- Membean (vocabulary 15 minutes a day, for 3 days) – due Fridays
- Literature Book – Student Choice (multiple assignments with due dates): RJWs for the 2nd Trimester will be on any book. Choose a book out of the library, or one of your own to complete each RJW. You must read a different book during the unit, one that you haven’t read before. When you finish the book, choose a new book and then continue doing entries from where you left off for that book. Continue until you are done. You must do ALL of the following in the order they are presented. Each entry must be one page long, in your best writing, with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. - Writing #1CC (2 parts): Part 1 A Victorian American Celebration: Overview Read the Introduction, the Task, the Process, and the Evaluation sections. Write down bullet-pointed notes (what it is you will need to do) and any questions you may have on the Google Doc. Part 2 Group Investigative Roles: Use 5 X 7 Index cards. You summarized information and pictures will be hung in the classroom (DO not use the back of the card). Both due Friday
- Current Events #1CC: Find an article online or in a book, related to our theme (Victorian Life) or a new concept (Industry/Business/Technology/
Inventions/Change); due Thursday
- Current Events #1CC part 2: Begin collecting clothing items for our Victorian Party. (ex: Boys – vests, baggy slacks, top hats/caps, white button-down shirts. Girls – white blouses, hoop skirts, bonnets, ribbons.): due before Thursday, December 19
- Workshop (writing) – in class assignments/may become homework
- Victorian Unit – banquet will take place on Thursday, December 19th. The students will be graded on the participation.
