Head’s Up
- New Unit – Human & Civil Rights. Students will take the next 6 weeks and learn about this theme. They will:
1. Cover history (i.e. Holocaust & American Civil Rights movement) and Current events both in the USA and Globally.2. They will complete many assignments associated with this theme, including CommonLits, Advertising/Propaganda, and mini research projects/questions they will need to answer.3. They will complete and present a group google slides project (ask your student what topic they chose).4. Participate in a Mock Election.5. Chose a literature book and form a Book Club where they will learn how to discuss a book in a group setting. (Books will be chosen tomorrow – ask your student what book they chose).
- Los Angeles trip next payment due November 8th (see attached document for payment schedule).
- 8th Grade Girls will participate in the Empowerment Project Day, sponsored by AUSD/Rotary Club on October 24th. Permission slips are due by Friday (see email that went home)

- Math – CPM, Khan, Math Review, other; assorted due dates (see on Google Classroom), assessment usually on Fridays
- Science (New Unit “Cells”)- in class lab/assignments (becomes homework if they don’t finish in class)
- CommonLit – Fighting for Rights; due Thursday
- Literature Book (multiple due dates): assigned chapters read & Golden Lines due by Thursdays, Book Club discussion on Thursdays, RJWs & Reflections due Fridays, assessments on Fridays
- Current Events – Summarize an article; due Friday
- Workshop – in class assignments/may become homework
- Human Civil Rights Project – students chose their groups and topics today, and began researching. Ask your student what their topic is (also attached)!! See requirements for this project (attached)
