Announcements (Important – please read):
  1.  Internships/Job Shadows will take place next week, March 11, 12, & 13th.  Students will not come to school, but go to their “jobs”.  Students have a packet that will need to be filled out by their “employers” and themselves to receive a grade for this project (no packet, no grade). 8th grade students should seek out a different place of business, doing a different job then they did last year. Students must give us the details of their Internship/Job Shadow by March 7thSee attached documents for details.
 2EE trips to Family Harvest Farm are starting up next week
We are excited to start our experiential learning this year in partnership with the Family Harvest Farm (!

  Students will be going to the farm as a whole group on Thursday, March 14 from 9:30~12:45pm, and as smaller groups through the rest of this school year (parents will be informed of dates beforehand through email & we will need drivers too). 

  The permission form was sent to you through Dochub and is due by March 7th.  

  We still need drivers for this trip, and for future trips (need to have required insurance 100,000,300,000 on file in the office).  If you can drive for the March 14th trip, make sure to let us know on the Dochub form!!!  Thank you to Kaifi, Maderos, Richardson, and Gochenouer for volunteering! 

 3. Mock Interviews were this morning.  Thank you to Mrs. Farrington & Mr. Nakayama for volunteering.  Ask your student how their interview went!
Week 2:  Careers
This unit will give the students the opportunity to explore different careers, create an individual project on a career which will be presented to the class, and go to a job shadow/internship for 3 days. This unit will require your help.  For the project, once your student has chosen a career to do their project on, they will need to do a site visit & an interview.  Example: Chosen career is a Pediatric Doctor: site visit to a hospital or a Pediatric doctor’s office, interview a Pediatrician.  Students also need to do an Internship/Job Shadow next week, for 3 days.  The place they work does not need to be what they are doing their Career Project on, but can be different.
This Week’s Assignments/Homework: not inclusive – assignments may be added.  Class assignments not finished during class become homework.
  • Writing:   Write a diary entry as the main character of your book. Include an important event, his thoughts and feelings, and his understanding of the event. Relate the whole entry to something that actually occurred in the novel. due Friday
  • Vocabulary: 15 minutes a day on Membean
  • Literature Book: The Cure or The Giver (ask your student which book they are reading); pacing guide for reading, RJW + Reflection due on Fridays, quiz on Fridays
  • Current Events:“My Future Dream Board” Poster Project:

    Create a collage of photos of events that you want to occur in your future or that inspire you to create an amazing future for yourself. Be CREATIVE with your poster. Make it look like you are doing everything; consider incorporating photos of you (Photoshop). Be prepared to share your poster in class on Thursday

  • Math: CPM, Khan, POD, pacing guide with due dates, assessments on Fridays
  • Science “Space”: participation & assignments; due on Science day
  • Career Project:  students should have completed 1-2 tasks by now, and working on the next tasks.  There are 10 tasks (requirements) total.
