One of the greatest things about our school is the amount of study trips we go on through the school year. We call them study trips and not field trips because we are not just going on a trip for the fun- although it is very fun- but we are using the trip as a jumping off point to inspire learning and make real world connections to what we are doing in class.
This week Primary will be goin on their very first study trip to Smith Family Farm in Brentwood. This trip will be our introduction to our pumpkin unit in class. Students are using the Montessori curriculum to learn about how a pumpkin grows from seed to vine to full sized pumpkin, what a pumpkin needs to grow, what we can do with the pumpkin and finally a cooking project using pumpkin. We have pumpkin math using seeds and ribs on the pumpkin, pumpkin writing projects and pumpkin art projects all inspired from our trip.
We want to thank the parents and families in advance for their help in making our trips possible. We rely on parent involvement to chaperone and drive on our trips to keep the cost down and keep families connected to what we are learning at school. We can’t wait to share our learning with you!

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Family Network Family Movie Night: Mark your calendars for October 21st – Family Movie Night! The event starts at 6:30. See flyer for details
Electives: We want to take this opportunity to give a “Shout Out” to our wonderful 1st trimester elective volunteers: Mr. Ferguson, Mr. Cortez, Mrs. Taylor, and Ms. Evers. One of the reasons our school is successful is because of people like you who are willing to invest in our students!
Believe it or not, it is time to start planning for our 2nd trimester (November 28 – March 10). Afternoon electives for our 4-8th grade students starts on Monday, November 28th, and run from 2:05-3pm on Mon, Tues, Thurs, & Fridays (Fridays are for Middle School students only).
We are looking for adults who are willing to teach/supervise an assortment of activities. The elective program at our school is vitally important part of our curriculum. These classes offer students the opportunities to explore new areas of interest, opening their minds to new possibilities for themselves. Our hope is to offer at least 9 different options for students to choose from on each day. This is only possible if our wonderful ACA community volunteers to help!!
Ideas for classes are: arts & crafts, sewing, language classes (ASL, Spanish, etc), sports (basketball, kickball, soccer, softball, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, etc), cooking, gardening, yoga, photography, drama, board games, extra work time, and the list can go on and on – teach what you enjoy!
If you can donate an hour of your time, once a week for the next trimester, to help teach or supervise a class, please let us know ASAP!!! You can also team up with a friend to teach a class, and you do not need to have a student in the 4-8th grade classes to help!!
If you are interested in teaching a 2nd trimester elective, respond to this email, or let the office know by Monday, October 24th!
First Fridays: First Fridays take place every 1st Friday of the month during the school year, at Skipolini’s in Antioch at 4pm. Come and have dinner with your family while making new friends from our ACA community! **Bring the flyer to Skips and ACA will receive 10% of your purchase total!**

REMINDERS & FYIs
Late Arrivals/Early Departure: Please make sure to check into the office if your student arrives late. If your student needs to depart early, the person picking up the child must call the office at (925) 755-7311 so the office can retrieve the student prior to walking into the office to sign out their student.
Parking Lot Safety – Let’s Keep ALL Our Students, Staff & Families SAFE!
SLOW DOWN
Everyone needs to use crosswalks!
Listen to the staff’s instructions – they are trying to keep everyone safe, and to keep drop off/pick up running smoothly.
Do not tell your students to cut through the parking lot to reach you – cars that are backing up may not see your student. Students should be picked up using the carpool lane, or using the crosswalk, they can walk to their cars which are parked on the street/in front of the park.
When it is your turn to enter the carpool lane, pull all the way forward, so up to 6 vehicles can load/unload their charges at a time.
Do not move forward in the carpool lane until all children have entered/exited their vehicles in front of you – a fender bender could severely injure a child who is partially in a vehicle.
When leaving the parking lot, please drive the speed limit so our students walking to school are safe.
Thank you for keeping everyone safe – remember picking up/dropping off is only a few minutes out of your day, but an injury could last a lifetime!!
Yearbook Fundraiser: Every Wednesday morning the yearbook staff will be selling donuts in front of the gate from 7:50-8:10. We are doing this to fundraise to purchase yearbooks for the 8th graders, the school and the yearbook staff. Extra money will go to lowering the price of the yearbook for everyone! Donuts are priced from $1-3.
Charter Council: The Charter Council is our governing board. The board meets usually on the second Thursday of the month @ 4PM. Please check the calendar for the next meeting date/time, or call the office at 925-755-7311 to confirm. These meetings are open to the public – all are welcomed!
School Lunch Order Form – https://forms.gle/
You MUST order meals in advance in order to receive them or else we may not have a meal available for your student. Breakfast and Supper will be the same for all students, while lunch has a menu that you can choose one entree from.
Absences and Tardies – Daily Attendance is expected: If your student will be absent, or tardy, please call the office at 925-755-7311, or email your student’s classroom, before 8:00am.
Remind: This is another way for the school to quickly inform you on what is happening on campus. Never miss another minimum day schedule, or a whole school event. You can receive messages through email or through texting – you decide! If you have not signed up yet, please contact your student’s classroom for the code – each grouping has their own code!
