Coastal Clean-up is Friday September 23rd!
Permission slips for Coastal Clean-up will be going home soon! Students who do not turn in a permission slip for Coastal Clean-up or mark that they will not be participating will help clean up our campus instead of the creek. All students will be participating in community service that day, whether it is helping to clean the creek or our campus. Coastal Clean-up is happening Friday September 23rd from 1:00-1:45. This is ACA II’s annual schoolwide community service project and a chance for our students to give back to our local community. If you’d like to join us, please mark that you’d like to volunteer on the permission slip.
We want to get to know your Intermediate student better!
Traditionally, the Intermediate teachers send home a “get to know you” form at the beginning of the school year. This year, we’ve made that form digital. Please consider filling out this quick google form to help us get to know your student better. All three Intermediate teachers will take a look at the responses and will follow up with any questions that we have! https://forms.gle/
The Purpose of Trapper Keepers (aka Zipper Binder)
As students complete their weekly assignments, they should file their old work under math, language arts, social studies, science or research, if appropriate. At test time, they will be able to pull out and review relevant topics.For example, science students are given hand-outs that should be filed until test time. Science students get to use those materials during the test.
4th & 5th Grade Parents- Please sign the black folder!
Just a reminder for 4th and 5th grade parents: please review and sign your student’s black folder each weekend! On each week’s contract is a progress report about your student’s work and behavior. Teachers also leave parents and students weekly notes! It is important to review your student’s folder with them every week.
First Trimester Research Projects
Trimester 1 research projects started last week! This week’s assignment is Performance #1. Please check in with your student about their progress on their project. If this is your student’s first research project and you missed the presentation at Back to School Night, please come in one day after school to look at the samples we have.
Instrumental Music has begun!
Intermediate and Beginning instrumental music classes have begun! Intermediate classes will be held during electives and Beginning classes will be held during SSR. Intermediate Strings and Band students will need to bring their instruments to school on the day of their music class if they still have instruments at home. Beginning Strings and Band students will not be getting their instruments right away. For the first few sessions, students will be learning the procedures of instrumental music classes. Beginning students will be sent home with instruments when they are ready.
Intermediate Technology Procedures Form
Intermediate students are only allowed to use personal technology devices at school with teacher and parent permission. If you would like to allow your student to use their device at school, you must fill out the following google form. https://forms.gle/
Please remember that each skills group, specialty group, SSR, and elective class has its own rules for the use of personal devices. Please contact your student’s skills group teacher for more information about specific class rules.
CAASPP Scores will go home this week
If your student took the CAASPP test last year as a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader at ACA II, their score will be sent home with your student in an envelope this week. If you did not receive your student’s score, but know they took the test, please ask them about it. If they did not receive an envelope, please email Miss Dubitsky and she can send home another copy. If you have any questions about your student’s score on the CAASPP, please email your student’s skills group teacher!
Counselor’s Corner: Screen Time
Although some screen time can be educational, it’s easy to go overboard, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The American Academy of Pediatrics discourages media use by children younger than 2 and recommends limiting older children’s screen time to no more than one or two hours a day.

¡La limpieza costera es el viernes 23 de septiembre!
¡Los formularios de permiso para la limpieza costera se enviarán a casa pronto! Los estudiantes que no entreguen una hoja de permiso para la limpieza costera o que no marquen que no participarán ayudarán a limpiar nuestro campus en lugar del arroyo. Todos los estudiantes participarán en el servicio comunitario ese día, ya sea ayudando a limpiar el arroyo o nuestro campus. La limpieza costera se llevará a cabo el viernes 23 de septiembre de 1:00 a 1:45. Este es el proyecto de servicio comunitario anual de toda la escuela de ACA II y una oportunidad para que nuestros estudiantes retribuyan a nuestra comunidad local. El propósito de Trapper Keepers (también conocido como Carpeta con cremallera)
A medida que los estudiantes completan sus tareas semanales, deben archivar su trabajo anterior en matemáticas, artes del lenguaje, estudios sociales, ciencias o investigación, si corresponde. En el contrato de cada semana hay un informe de progreso sobre el trabajo y el comportamiento de su estudiante. ¡Los maestros también dejan notas semanales a padres y estudiantes! Es importante revisar la carpeta de su estudiante con ellos cada semana.
Proyectos de investigación del primer trimestre
de investigación del primer trimestre comenzaron la semana pasada! La tarea de esta semana es Performance #1. Consulte con su estudiante sobre su progreso en su proyecto. Si este es el primer proyecto de investigación de su estudiante y se perdió la presentación en la Noche de Regreso a la Escuela, venga un día después de la escuela para ver las muestras que tenemos.
¡La música instrumental ha comenzado!
¡Comenzaron las clases de música instrumental para intermedios y principiantes! Las clases intermedias se llevarán a cabo durante las electivas y las clases para principiantes se llevarán a cabo durante SSR. Los estudiantes de cuerdas y banda intermedia deberán traer sus instrumentos a la escuela el día de su clase de música si todavía tienen instrumentos en casa. Los estudiantes principiantes de Cuerdas y Banda no obtendrán sus instrumentos de inmediato. Durante las primeras sesiones, los estudiantes aprenderán los procedimientos de las clases de música instrumental. Si su estudiante tomó el examen CAASPP el año pasado como estudiante de 3.°, 4.° o 5.° grado en ACA II, su puntaje se enviará a casa con su estudiante en un sobre esta semana. Si no recibió el puntaje de su estudiante, pero sabe que tomó el examen, pregúntele al respecto. Si no recibieron un sobre, envíe un correo electrónico a la señorita Dubitsky y ella puede enviar a casa otra copia. Si tiene alguna pregunta sobre el puntaje de su estudiante en el CAASPP, ¡envíe un correo electrónico al maestro del grupo de habilidades de su estudiante!
Rincón de la consejera: Tiempo frente a la pantalla
Si bien pasar un tiempo frente a la pantalla puede ser educativo, es fácil pasarse de la raya, especialmente durante la pandemia de COVID-19. La Academia Estadounidense de Pediatría desaconseja el uso de los medios por parte de los niños menores de 2 años y recomienda limitar el tiempo de pantalla de los niños mayores a no más de una o dos horas al día.
