Antioch Charter Academy

June 10  Minimum Day – dismissal at 12pm

Newsletter for Antioch Charter Academy/TLCS Families and Staff Volume 26, Issue 38, June 6,2022

Dear ACA Families,

As we end the school year, I can’t help but feel some excitement for the summer fun that is ahead. Some relaxing in the sun and some learning too! This summer ACA is offering five weeks of STEAM summer camp—two in June (half day camps) and three weeks in July (full day camps). If you can believe it, all of our STEAM camps are already FULL! If you signed up for a week of camp, look for confirmation emails this month.

Next year, ACA will offer something new for our TK/K-3rd graders and we are updating the Math Shack for our 4th-8th graders.

Cougar Cub Club (CCC) is our new offering for TK/K-3 grade students. This ACA extended learning opportunity program will start August 22nd and provide before school activities and after school activities for qualified students in TK, K and 1-3 grade for the 2022-23 school year. Look for information and an interest survey concerning CCC in July.

Math Shack is changing course and changing names. Next school year, we will be changing the name of Math Shack to the Cougar Crew (Crew for short). We will be expanding the program to be Monday through Friday until 5 pm.  Look for information and an interest survey about Crew in July.

Lots happening this week:

  • Tuesday, Middle School students celebrate all they accomplished at the Family Harvest Farm, with a day trip, lunch, and introduction to our 6th grade students.

  • 8th grade graduation will be held on Wednesday at 4:30 pm at the Antioch Community Center Ballroom, across from Deer Valley HS. This special tradition is always a treat, as we watch our 8th grade student speeches.  Join us if you can.

  • Thursday, we celebrate Mrs. Solnok in the Elementary and Primary—our wonderful TK-3 aide is retiring. We are happy for her and wish her the best on the next part of her journey. Make sure to THANK Mrs. Sue for the love she brought to our staff and students over the last 10 years!

  • Friday, Field DAY takes place in the morning with school ending at 12:00 pm. For those families, staff, and students wanting to have just a little more time together before summer, head over to the park and enjoy a chance to play and picnic together.

Have a wonderful, healthy, and restful summer.

Edna Heller, Co-Administrator

Field Day: We still need parent volunteers to make this day happen! Volunteers are needed from 8:30 – 11:30am on June 10th to help run the games. Please contact the office if you can join in on the fun!

If you have a child/grandchild/niece/nephew/etc. at ACA, then come join us & help make a difference!

Family Network Meetings are usually the second Thursday of each month. The board welcomes and encourages all ACA families to attend the meetings.  Check with the calendar below to find out the next meeting.

🍿  Popcorn Fridays Volunteers Needed 🍿

We need volunteers to help out with popcorn sales each Friday 2:30pm – 3:30pm

Help set up, make popcorn, sell candy/popcorn and clean-up

Mask & Temperature Reminders: Students, employees, parents/guardians, and visitors will need to wear a mask while indoors on campus.  Masks are available in the office for children and adults.

We will continue to symptom screencheck and temperature check each student upon arrival. If students arrive late, a parent/driver must walk the student(s) into the office for a symptom screen and temperature check. Wearing masks outdoors on campus is now optional.

Early Departure:  If your student needs to depart early, the person picking up the child must call the office at (925) 755-7311 so the office can retrieve the student prior to walking into the office to sign out their student.

Parking Lot Safety – Let’s Keep ALL Our Students, Staff & Families SAFE!

  • Everyone needs to use crosswalks!

  • Listen to the staff’s instructions – they are trying to keep everyone safe, and to keep drop off/pick up running smoothly.

  • Do not tell your students to cut through the parking lot to reach you – cars that are backing up may not see your student.  Students should be picked up using the carpool lane, or using the crosswalk, they can walk to their cars which are parked on the street/in front of the park.

  • When it is your turn to enter the carpool lane, pull all the way forward, so up to 6 vehicles can load/unload their charges at a time.

  • Do not move forward in the carpool lane until all children have entered/exited their vehicles in front of you – a fender bender could severely injure a child who is partially in a vehicle.

  • Thank you for keeping everyone safe – remember picking up/dropping off is only a few minutes out of your day, but an injury could last a lifetime!!

Charter Council: The Charter Council is our governing board.  The board meets usually on the second Thursday of the month @ 4PM.  Please check the calendar for the next meeting date/time, or call the office at 925-755-7311 to confirm.  These meetings are open to the public – all are welcomed! Check the calendar for the next school meeting.

Absences and Tardies – Daily Attendance is expected: If your student will be absent, or tardy, please call the office at 925-755-7311, or email your student’s classroom, before 8:00am.

Remind: This is another way for the school to quickly inform you on what is happening on campus. Never miss another minimum day schedule, or a whole school event.  You can receive messages through email or through texting – you decide!  If you have not signed up yet, please contact your student’s classroom for the code!

Need Assistance – it is OK to ask!
