*New Unit – Extreme Earth! Students will produce a presentation, including a science experiment, on a topic within our theme. Students will be reading the literature book, Nation (if you like dry humor, we recommend you read this book too!). Ask your student what topic they chose for their presentation!

*Farm Visit to the Family Harvest Farm (Pittsburg) for experiential learning: Group 2 will be going out this Friday, April 29th from 9:35am – 12pm. We need drivers for this trip. Please let us know if you can drive! Make sure your student is dressed appropriately for working on a farm! The rest of the students will have a normal school day.

*Young Authors’: On Wednesday, May 4 from 6:30~7:30, the Middle School will have our room(s) open so you can come see your student’s Portfolio. Students have been given class time all year to work on their Portfolios! Come celebrate their achievement!
*Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment (State Testing) for Middle School will take place 5/2, 5/3, 5/16, 5/17, 5/19, 5/20, 5/26, 5/27. Please do not schedule appointments on test dates (testing takes place in the mornings, before lunch). 8th grade students took their Science test today.
*ACA & ACA II Middle School Spring Dance: on May 6, the two campuses will have a spring dance at the ACA campus. See attached flyer for more information

Current Events: Find an article related to our theme (EXTREME EARTH). After you read it, write a three paragraph summary of the article. Due Thursday
Writing: Students will begin a Poetry/Writing Unit in class this week. Assignments will either be in class or due the following day. This unit will be for the entire 6 weeks.

Literature (Nation): read assigned pages by Thursday, quiz on Fridays
Extreme Earth Project: Students picked topics and project groups today. They need to start researching. Practice Presentation is on May 12th.
Writer’s Workshop: Portfolio of writing assignments. Due May 4th for Young Author’s Night!
Science: Extreme Earth (assignments are in class, unless they don’t finish, then it is homework)
Passion Project: yearlong project with assorted benchmarks/due dates. Students are given an hour a week in class to work on this project. Ask your student how they are doing on the projects!
