Newsletter for Antioch Charter Academy/TLCS Families and Staff Volume 26, Issue 11, November 1, 2021
Greetings ACA Families!
I hope everyone had a great Halloween weekend! I’m sure our students had lots of fun and received even more candy! Students can bring a few pieces of candy to school for lunch, but I urge families to just be aware of how much is put in students’ backpacks or lunch boxes as it would be best to keep candy to a minimum.
I would also like to congratulate all students and families for completing our very first Walktober! I believe it has been very successful. Students met the goal of accumulating enough steps to get them to New York City…WOW! That is impressive! Pledge sheets should have been submitted this past Friday, but students will get these back this week in order to collect Pledges per lap. All money is due by November 18th. I think we all owe out Family Network a huge shoutout for organizing such an awesome fundraiser!
Thank you so very much for supporting our school.
Regards,
Mrs. Cerecedes
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Electives: Believe it or not, it is time to start planning for our 2nd trimester (November 29th – March 11th). Afternoon electives for our 4-8th grade students run from 2:05-3pm on Mon, Tues, Thurs, & Fridays (Fridays are for Middle School students only).
We are looking for adults who are willing to teach/supervise an assortment of activities. The elective program at our school is vitally important part of our curriculum. These classes offer students the opportunities to explore new areas of interest, opening their minds to new possibilities for themselves. Our hope is to offer at least 9 different options for students to choose from on each day. This is only possible if our wonderful ACA community volunteers to help!!
Ideas for classes are: arts & crafts, sewing, language classes (ASL, Spanish, etc), sports (basketball, kickball, soccer, softball, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, etc), gardening, yoga, photography, drama, board games, extra work time, and the list can go on and on – teach what you enjoy!
If you can donate an hour of your time, once a week for the next trimester, to help teach or supervise a class, please let us know ASAP!!! You can also team up with a friend to teach a class, and you do not need to have a student in the 4-8th grade classes to help!! At this point, we need to have all volunteers show proof of full Covid vaccination.
If you are interested in teaching a 2nd trimester elective, respond to this email, or let the office know by today, November 1st!
Yearbook: We need your pictures! If you take pictures of school events, please share them to www.treering.com/validate Passcode for our school is 101506720561403

Mask Reminder: Students, employees, parents/guardians, and visitors will need to wear a mask while on campus, which includes the parking lot. Masks are available in the office for children and adults.
Drop Off & Pick Up Reminders: We will continue to symptom screencheck and temperature check each student upon arrival. Parents/drivers may not enter the gates during carpool dropoff time.
If students arrive late, after staff has left the drop off area, a parent/driver must walk the student(s) into the office for a symptom screen and temperature check. Both the student(s) and the adult must wear a mask.
If your student needs to depart early, the person picking up the child must call the office at (925) 755-7311 so the office can retrieve the student prior to walking into the office to sign out their student. All visitors coming onto campus must wear a mask.
Parking Lot Safety – Let’s Keep ALL Our Students, Staff & Families SAFE!
Everyone needs to use crosswalks!
Listen to the staff’s instructions – they are trying to keep everyone safe, and to keep drop off/pick up running smoothly.
Do not tell your students to cut through the parking lot to reach you – cars that are backing up may not see your student. Students should be picked up using the carpool lane, or using the crosswalk, they can walk to their cars which are parked on the street/in front of the park.
When it is your turn to enter the carpool lane, pull all the way forward, so up to 6 vehicles can load/unload their charges at a time.
Do not move forward in the carpool lane until all children have entered/exited their vehicles in front of you – a fender bender could severely injure a child who is partially in a vehicle.
Thank you for keeping everyone safe – remember picking up/dropping off is only a few minutes out of your day, but an injury could last a lifetime!!
Charter Council: The Charter Council is our governing board. The board meets usually on the second Thursday of the month @ 4PM. Please check the calendar for the next meeting date/time, or call the office at 925-755-7311 to confirm. These meetings are currently on Zoom, and open to the public – all are welcomed! Check the calendar for the next school meeting.
Absences and Tardies – Daily Attendance is expected: If your student will be absent, or tardy, please call the office at 925-755-7311, or email your student’s classroom, before 8:00am.
Ordering Lunch: Order forms (see link in Contact) are due every Friday by 9am for the following week. If you forget to submit your order form, your student will still be able to order the “Offered Daily” items on the morning of. If you would like your students’ order to stay permanent, please let the office know. Also, please let us know if you would like to receive free breakfast, snack, and dinner “Grab & Go”.
Need Assistance – it is OK to ask!
