First Week of School
A friendly reminder that the first day of school is Wednesday August 18th. It is a minimum day, which means that school will begin at 8:15am and end at 12:00pm. Thursday August 15th and Friday August 16th are minimum days as well. Please remember that the fairground gates open at 8:00am and that all students must be picked up by 12:15pm. If you are late picking up your student, you must walk to the office to get him/her.
All students must wear a mask to school. The recommended mask types are the paper surgical masks or a cloth mask. All masks must fit correctly (not open on sides) and be able to be worn correctly (over nose) by students. Every student will have their temperature checked prior to coming through the main gate.
All Intermediate students will meet on the basketball court next to the Intermediate classrooms on the first day of school. The Intermediate teachers will be providing reminders about in-person school procedures all week long.
New Parent Orientation/Back to School Night
Intermediate will host both a virtual New Parent Orientation and a Back to School Night on Wednesday August 25th over Zoom. Back to School Night will be from 6:00pm-7:00pm and New Parent Orientation will immediately follow at 7:00pm.
All 4th grade parents and new parents are highly recommended to attend New Parent Orientation following our Back to School Night. There will be a ton of important information presented at both. Veteran Intermediate parents are welcome to stay for New Parent Orientation.
Snack in Intermediate
A reminder for new parents and seasoned veteran parents alike, students in Intermediate are expected to bring their own snack to school. Please remember that students are expected to bring a healthy snack (no chips, soda or cookies please!) and will be invited to eat snack between 9:00am and 11:00am every morning. Students are often hungry the first day of school so please remember to send them with a snack!
Please be mindful that there are students with severe peanut/nut allergies in Intermediate and snacks/lunches need to be peanut/nut free.
Hot Lunch for Minimum Days
Hot lunch is available to order for minimum days the first week of school. Please contact the office if you would like to order hot lunch for your child for the first week of school or be sure to have your student let their Skills Group teacher know.
Bring “Supply List” items the first week of school!
All “Supply List”items are important for student success. Please send school supplies with your student the first week of school so they can start the year prepared. Especially important are the notebooks that will be the students’ Reader’s Response Journal, Math Journal, and Science Journal. The trapper keeper should also be coming to school with students every day! Remember that your student’s research binder can stay at home until the research project due date. Label all belongings please!
Please be sure that your student’s name is on all of their personal belongings so that they do not get confused with another student’s. Supplies, sweatshirts, and personal items often go missing in the first few weeks if they do not have a name displayed on them.
Dress Code Reminder
During the first week of school every year, we remind our students about the dress code as many of them grow a lot over the summer. Help your student check to make sure they are dressed appropriately in the morning. Please no bare midriff shirts, see through clothing, strapless sandals, short shorts, spaghetti strap tops, or sagging pants and/or exposed underwear. Students who come to school with clothing that is not appropriate for school will be asked to call home for a change of clothes or will have to choose appropriate clothing from the extra clothing bin. If you are unsure of the dress code regulations, please consult the family handbook.
