Antioch Charter Academy

Newsletter for Antioch Charter Academy/TLCS Families and Staff Volume 25, Issue 36, June 7, 2021

Every school year, there are countless parents and family members that provide support to our school. Without this support and parent involvement, ACA programing would not be the success that it has today. This year, Antioch Charter Academy would like to honor two parents that have been incredibly supportive and giving during all their years at Antioch Charter Academy, with the Parent Volunteer Award. Both have dedicated time and resources to make sure that our school can offer a high quality education to not just their own children, but to all of the students at ACA.

We would like to honor Mary Cherry for volunteering countless hours to our school gardening program and Eric Tam for his incredible generosity when it comes to donating technology and for taking time to be a big voice for ACA during a time when ACA needed a showing of parent support.

Over the last couple years, Mary Cherry has taken her background of agriculture and brought it to our school garden. Despite having a farm of her own that hires and trains foster youth, she still took hours out of every week during the summer to transform our school garden from a dirt field with some fruit trees, to a school garden with 200+ feet of garden beds. Not only did she take the time to do the actual work, but she also coordinated with her vast network to get others out to help and to get donations like soil, fertilizer, compost, and plants. After working all week running her farm, she still comes out every weekend to make sure that our garden is in good standing.  Our school is very grateful for the work she has put in and look forward to her partnership for years to come.

Eric Tam has been an incredible resource for the school for a huge variety of matters. To name a few – He donated iPads to use in the Experiential Education program at Big Break, he donated security cameras and systems to the school after the many break ins and vandalizations, and Mr. Tam provided an unwavering amount of support and a big ACA parent voice during a time when ACA needed defending the most.

Thank you to Ms. Cherry and Mr. Tam for all that you have done for ACA. And a HUGE thank you to all the parents of Antioch Charter Academy for getting your students through this school year. We applaud you and appreciate you all.
