Newsletter for Antioch Charter Academy/TLCS Families and Staff Volume 25, Issue 12, November 9, 2020

Hello ACA families!

I want to compliment everyone for practicing the lifeskill of flexibility as we navigate these crazy circumstances.  Parents definitely deserve a pat on the back for supporting students and teachers during distance learning.  There is a lot on the horizon for us to look forward to in the next few weeks.

Coming soon are invitations for report card conferences so be on the lookout for emails from your child’s class.  Conference invitations may not be sent to every family, but if you would like a conference to check in, be sure to email your child’s classroom teacher.  Another good idea at this time of year is to just have a conversation with your child about how things are going with school and how they are feeling.

As the holiday approaches I want to encourage everyone to remember the things they are thankful for.  When things are different it is far too easy to fall into the trap of a negative attitude.  Positive thinking takes work!  Celebrate successes, no matter how small!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hummel

(Intermediate)

GENERAL NOTES

Reopening Plan Update (11/9/2020): As numbers and color tiers fluctuate for our county, we are making plans for what it will look like when we are able to reopen.  We are operating with an abundance of caution when we think about bringing students back to campus, and student and staff safety is at the front of our minds.  Today, we are welcoming back the TK/K class to campus!!!  We are currently planning to continue distance learning for the majority of levels through December.  There is a lot of planning that goes into reopening safely and safety is our priority.  We will keep you updated about our plans and let you know by December 14th what our plans will be concerning distance learning/on campus learning for January.

Giving Back Opportunity on November 13th from 7:45- 3pm: The ACA Volunteer club is teaming up with Shelters inc to hold a Thanksgiving food drive. Shelters inc is a local charity focused on helping the Contra Costa County homeless population. All donations will be given directly to homeless families/people in need that Shelter Inc supports. Below you can find the list of donations! Please show your support and help feed others this Thanksgiving! If you need any other information you can contact  the.acavolunteeerclub@gmail.com

2020-21 Yearbook: The Yearbook Elective needs your help! We need pictures of your students doing Distance Learning so we will be able to create a yearbook that is full of amazing school memories! If you have any pictures of students participating in school related activities please send them to ACAMemories@antiochcharteracademy.org so that the yearbook staff can use them! Thank You!

REMINDERS

Grab & Go Meals: Thanks to an extension of the Summer Feeding waiver from the USDA, all students from ACA I & II (and any siblings 18 and under) may pick up a bag containing FREE breakfast, lunch, supper and a snack M-F from any one of our 12 feeding sites.  The waiver is good through the end of December.  Please visit https://www.antiochschools.net/nutrition-services for the list of sites and menus.

Charter Council: the Charter Council is our governing board.  The board meets on a monthly basis – usually the first Thursday of the month @ 4PM.  Please check the calendar for the next meeting date/time, or call the office at 925-755-7311 to confirm.  These meetings are open to the public – all are welcomed!

Absences and Tardies – Daily Attendance is expected: If your student will be absent, or tardy, please call the office at 925-755-7311, or email your student’s classroom, before 8:00am. Even though we are currently doing Distance Learning, roll is still taken EVERY DAY.

Updates on Distance Learning and Reopening: Distance Learning for most levels will continue until the December break.  This means the majority of students will be distance learning through December. We continue to evaluate the situation and are working to prepare the site and staff for in person learning, with the introduction of phased in student cohorts in a safe manner.
