Newsletter for Antioch Charter Academy/TLCS Families and Staff Volume 25, Issue 6, September 21, 2020

Dear ACA Families and Friends,

During this time of Distance Learning, while many of us are working and learning at home, we aren’t always able to see each other.  Even though we are not physically at school, The Family Network Board has still been working hard organizing volunteers and events to support the ACA students and staff.  The first event of the year is our annual Walk-A-Thon!

Our annual Walk-A-Thon will be held September 29-September 30.

This will be a Distance Learning Walk-A-Thon!  Any time from 8 am on September 29 through 8 pm on September 30, students can exercise for 30 minutes while social distancing.

You can take a walk, dance, Zumba, do jumping jacks, burpees, martial arts, play on the trampoline, swim….whatever you choose to stay active for 30 minutes.  Have fun!

Students can collect pledges using the 99 Pledges website.  Family and friends can pledge per minute your student is active, or pledge a flat donation amount.

*Go to to add your student as a participant.

The ‘add participant’ button is near the bottom left in a very small blue font!  Once your student is added, then you can email the link to their personal donation page to friends and family and collect donations.  You can also use that page to make a donation yourself.

All the pledges and donations raised will go directly to ACA students.  The Family Network uses the funds for alumni scholarships, study trip financial support, educational events, family events, classroom materials, and more.

Please consider donating to the Annual Give fundraiser. Donations can be submitted via PayPal to, venmo to @Beth-Rottier, or checks mailed to the school with the attached form. Remember, your donation is tax deductible and helps to fund many materials and programs offered at our school.

Thanks so much,

Ms. McLean

Materials Pick Up/Drop Off Days: The next pick up/drop off day for all students will be on Sept 30th, Oct. 1st, and Oct 2nd.  The specifics about times, materials, and the actually pick up process will be sent out in a future email.  Please put these dates on your calendar.  Primary & Elementary students will have to pick up materials/packets/work for the next 6 weeks of school.  Other levels may have materials to pick up (ie.  Middle School will exchange their literature books).

Daily Attendance is expected.  If your child(ren) will be absent, please contact the school via email or phone call to inform us of the absence.  Students will still be expected to complete their missing work (independent study).

Volunteer Club: Howdy! We’re a middle school run volunteer club. We want to help our community by donating, volunteering, and fundraising. For our upcoming event, we want to donate to Saint Jude’s Hospital, and we need your help! Attached is a list of the items we would like to donate. In addition to these goods, we are also in need of cash donations to ship these items to the main location in Tennessee. Our plan is to host a drive through event on one of the pick-up days (TBA). All donations listed are welcome! Please wear a face mask, and come support us!

The ACA Family Network is made up of ACA adults who volunteer for fundraisers and social events for the enrichment of our children. The money we raise goes back to our school for study trips, family activities, assemblies, and classroom supplies. If you have a child/grandchild/niece/nephew/etc. at ACA, then come join us & help make a difference!

You can take a walk, dance, Zumba, do jumping jacks, burpees, martial arts, play on the trampoline, swim… whatever you would like to do to stay active for 30 minutes straight. Have fun! Annual Give: Annual Give: $165 donated to date! Use the attached form and information to make your donation and help us reach our goal of raising $12,000 this year. Donations can be submitted via PayPal to, venmo to @Beth-Rottier, or checks mailed to the school with the attached form. Grab & Go Meals: Thanks to an extension of the Summer Feeding waiver from the USDA, all students from ACA I & II (and any siblings 18 and under) may pick up a bag containing FREE breakfast, lunch, supper and a snack M-F from any one of our 12 feeding sites.  The waiver is good through the end of December.  Please visit for the list of sites and menus.

Charter Council: the Charter Council is our governing board.  The board meets on a monthly basis – usually the first Thursday of the month @ 4PM.  Please check the calendar for the next meeting date/time, or call the office at 925-755-7311 to confirm.  These meetings are open to the public – all are welcomed!

Absences and Tardies: If your student will be absent, or tardy, please call the office at 925-755-7311, or email your student’s classroom, before 8:00am. Even though we are currently doing Distance Learning, roll is still taken EVERY DAY.

Updates on Distance Learning and Reopening: ACA I and II will continue with fully Distance Learning until the November break.  This means ALL students will be distance learning through November 20th. We will continue to evaluate the situation and prepare the site and staff for in person learning.
