Newsletter for Antioch Charter Academy/TLCS Families and Staff Volume 24, Issue 35, June 1, 2020

Dear ACA Families,

As we wrap up our last week of school I am sure you and your children were not expecting an end to the school year quite like this one. For our 8th graders, these days are certain to be filled with some disappointment regarding the end of the year events and graduation.  I’m sure this week’s drive-thru graduation will give them some joy and happiness.  For the rest of the student’s, families, and staff I hope the last day of school parade on Thursday will make you remember why ACA is a FAMILY!

Let me end the year with some gratitude and spotlight some accomplishments of students, staff and parents.

Thank you to our students who worked hard and committed to learning at home. We know you missed your teachers and friends, but you stuck to it and did your best.  It was exciting to see some of our middle school students highlighted in the local news for work they did on their Passion projects.

Thank you to the whole staff. They went above and beyond to provide students with a quality education these two and half months, by making calls, providing materials, connecting with students, connecting with parents, and planning for next year. A shout out to our enrichment staff (music, instrumental, art, dance, personal safety, soccer, PE), who brought amazing lessons and activities online. A shout out to our aides and office staff who stepped up and provided teachers a tremendous amount of support. Lastly, Mr. Abe was highlighted in the news for creating sidewalk art for Antioch’s essential workers. Go Mr. Abe!

Thank you to the parents, our newly enlisted ‘at home’ teachers for providing students and staff with support and for juggling all of your responsibilities at home/work while teaching students. We saw all the time and effort you put into helping students succeed at home, and we appreciated your patience and help.  Success couldn’t have been achieved without you!

I’m sure you are all reflecting on the changes we’ve all endured, and anticipating what next school year may look like. ACA staff will be meeting over the summer to prepare for reopening ACA in August. Please take the time to fill out the ‘Returning to ACA campus survey’ to let us know your thoughts.  It is important that we hear from you.

On another note, many of you have asked about what is happening in regards to our campus. ACA staff, along with AUSD staff, recently attended mediation and a settlement was reached.  Parents and students do not need to worry anymore, we will continue to have our school on the Hacienda campus. Further details will be discussed at next week’s Charter Council and District School Board meeting.

Please continue to look for emails over the break about next school year. I wish you all the best. Take care and we will see you in August!

Sincerely,

Edna Heller
