Intro to new theme: Extreme Earth (Distant Learning)

Thank you for your help in supporting your student!  It was wonderful having all 42 middle schoolers, plus teachers, all in one “room” this morning!

Things to know for this unit:
   1.  Students will do a group project for this unit.  They will work in groups of 3 (see below).  The project will have 4 parts, including a powerpoint, a scientific experiment, and 2 additional ways of sharing research information (ex. create a board game, create a comic, create a powtoon, etc).  This project will be due at the end of May.
   2.  The literature book for this unit is Nation by Terry Pratcher.  Students were given a digital copy and an audio copy of the book.  RJWs, Reflections, and Quizzes will be based on their reading.  Students were given a reading pacing guide for the book.
   3. Writing assignments for this unit will be assigned in Zoom meetings, and then posted.  Many of these assignments will be due the following day.  There will be special emphasis on poetry & other writing styles.
   4.  Teachers will continue to hold live classes on M, T, Th, & F.
