Newsletter for Antioch Charter Academy/TLCS Families and Staff Volume 24, Issue 21, February 11, 2020
Dear ACA Families,
As we enter our final week before February break, we are all looking forward to resting before we plunge into our 3rd trimester. This is a great opportunity to spend extra time with your children! Last year I read a great article that included, 50 questions to ask your children. If you need some really good conversation starters, try some of these.
- What is something that you heard that surprised you?
- What is something that you saw that made you think?
- Who did you play with today?
- Tell me something that you know today that you didn’t know yesterday?
- What is something that challenged you today?
- How did you show kindness today?
- How did someone show kindness to you?
- Did you like your lunch?
- Rate your day on a scale from 1-10.
- Did anyone get in trouble today?
- How were you brave today?
Electives: We want to take this opportunity to give a “Shout Out” to our WONDERFUL 2nd trimester elective volunteers: Mr. Ferguson (strategy games), Mrs. Hearn (board games), Mr. Cortez (cooking), Mrs. Hillyard (sewing), Mrs. MacCallister (crafts), and Ms. Killion (crocheting). Also, thank you to the ACA staff, including Mr. Abe (art & Japanese), Ms. Billeci (art & woodworking), & Mrs. Wade (dance). One of the reasons our school is successful is because of people like you who are willing to invest in our students!
Believe it or not, it is time to start planning for our 3rd trimester (3/16-5/29). Afternoon electives for our 4-8th grade students starts on Monday, March 16th, and run from 2:05-3pm on Mon, Tues, Thurs, & Fridays (Fridays are for Middle School students only).
We are looking for adults who are willing to teach/supervise an assortment of activities.
The elective program at our school is vitally important part of our curriculum. These classes offer students the opportunities to explore new areas of interest, opening their minds to new possibilities for themselves. Our hope is to offer at least 10 different options for students to choose from on each day. This is only possible if our wonderful ACA community volunteers to help!!
Ideas for classes are: arts & crafts, sewing, language classes (ASL, Spanish, Chinese, etc), sports (basketball, kickball, soccer, softball, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, etc), cooking, gardening, yoga, photography, drama, board games, assorted hobbies, and the list can go on and on – teach what you enjoy!
If you can donate an hour of your time, once a week for the next trimester, to help teach or supervise a class, please let us know ASAP!!! You can also team up with a friend to teach a class, and you do not need to have a student in the 4-8th grade classes to help!!
If you are interested in teaching a 3rd trimester elective, respond to this email, or let the office know before February 14th!
2020-21 Lottery: The ACA lottery for the upcoming 2020-21 school year, will be held on March 3, 2020. If you have a student, or know of a student who would like to attend next year, an application must be filled out and put into the lottery process.
No student is automatically accepted into the school because he or she has a sibling already attending ACA. All incoming students, including TK & Kindergarten, must submit an application by March 2nd, to be included in the school’s lottery. Applications can be filled out online at https://antiochcharteracademy.org/applications/ or a papercopy can be picked up in the office.
