Gradelink is the best place to check your student’s progress and performance in middle school.  Please login to Gradelink.  You can view each class to see what work is missing (noted with MIS) and the scores students receive on graded assignments.  Blanks indicate that the teacher has not yet graded an assignment.  You can also see upcoming assignments.

Message from Mrs. Ave!

Mrs. Ave’s annual Middle School Holiday breakfast party is Friday, December 20th!  I need HELP!  I’m looking for donations and volunteers the day of the event.  Please respond if you can help or are willing to donate anything on the list below.

Donations needed:

-2 gallons of orange juice

-1 gallon of almond milk

-1 tub of butter

-2 bottles of syrup

-2 boxes of pancake mix

-10 packs of precooked bacon from Costco

-napkins

-forks

-fruit platter

-cups for hot and cold drinks

-plates

After breakfast, we plan on having our annual White Elephant gift exchange.  If your student is interested in participating, have them bring a gift limit of $15.  The gift can be bought, made or a gently used item.  Have your student bring the gift wrapped Friday (12/20) morning.

Thank you to Christmas Tree Lot volunteers!

Thank you to families who brought their students to perform at the Tree Lot last Saturday.  It was enjoyable to watch the band and strings performers!  Thank you to the families and middle school students who volunteered for crafts, bake sale, raffle sales, tree help, set up and clean up!

Out holiday shopping next Wednesday near Century Plaza or don’t feel like cooking AND cleaning? Pick up dinner at Chipotle! ACAII will earn 20% back. Simply show the attached flyer on your phone or print one out to present. Share this flyer with family and friends for maximum potential!

3:00pm-9:00pm – Brentwood location

Come out and lets have some fun outside the classroom. Chuck E.Cheese donates up to 20% and a 15% minimum of sales generated from this event back to our school when purchases are made at the main REGISTER. Funds added onto playing cards at the vending machines don’t count. Family and friends are welcome to come and enjoy an exceptional coupon exclusive to fundraising events! Coupon flyer will go out to students Monday 12/16/19. Fundraising will have extra coupons at the event.

Tree-Lot thanks yous!

Tree Lot team would like to thanks the Kesslers for driving to Oregon and retrieving Tree-Lot’s trees. Thank you Greene family for letting the Kesslers use the trailer and hosting our craft tables. The kids really enjoyed themselves as well as the parents. Thank you Vela for the string and windpipe performances. They sounded fantastic. And thank you Teachers for the live dance performances. You and the kids really rocked out the holiday cheer. Gelanda for hosting the bake sale, Samuel family for delivering trees for us. Gilbert and Octavio for getting the Vet’s their trees and the many more fantastic volunteers we’re missing but were crucial for Tree-Lot’s operation. We hope everyone enjoyed this years Tree-Lot as much as we did. Happy Holidays – FNB

Middle School Writing Night

When: Tuesday December 10th

Time: 5:15 PM

Where: Mr. Hagan’s classroom room 5

What: Come experience the essay writing process that the middle schoolers are learning. Parents will participate in a hands on demonstration of the writing curriculum to help them better support their middle schooler at home. Bring your questions and something to write with 🙂

Article of the Week (A.O.W.):  (Monday)

AOW #3 College Worth

Each week students will receive an article of the week (AOW) to read. Students are required to:

  1. Read the article
  2. Discuss the article with one of their parents or guardians (whoever discusses the article should also read it)
  3. Respond in writing to the questions in the google classroom assignment.

The article for this week can be found here and in the Language Arts google class.  It is also attached as a handout.

Due Thursday

Mobymax Language:  (10 minutes a day)

Students will login to MobyMax here. They will click on the “Language” button and practice for 40 minutes.

Vocabulary:  (Tuesday)

Define each of the following words and note the part of speech.  Then either create an illustration of how you picture the meaning of your words or write a sentence using the word correctly.   If you choose to draw pictures, they should be done on a separate piece of paper with 4 on one side and 2 on the back. Each week I will provide a few vocabulary words.  You need to select the rest of the words from your independent reading book.

Persuasive Essay Planning:  (Wednesday)

Essay prompt: Write a letter to Princess Charlotte arguing which real knight from the middle ages is the greatest knight in history.

This week students will begin researching their assigned knight and should begin working on their outline.

If you want more information about writing in Middle School please come to Mr. Hagan’s room this Tuesday at 5:15 for a parent education program meeting on writing 🙂

The completed essay is due January 16th.

Social Studies:

See the attached handout for information on the Knight’s Challenge. Directions for specific parts of the challenge will be posted on Google Classroom and on the assignment itself on Gradelink.

Suggested for this week: Focus on completing one of the squires challenges, Begin planning your castle (what are you going to build it out of, start gathering your materials).

Math:

Please see the attached calendars for this week’s classwork, homework, and assessments.  Your student will also be given a paper version of the calendar.  Or, login to gradelink to see all math assignments.

Science:

Adaptation research/essay written response is due this week in Science class.  Khan Academy Growth Mindset Lesson 3 is due Friday.  Directions for both are on google classroom.
 

Music:

Practice everyday!
