Newsletter for Antioch Charter Academy/TLCS Families and Staff Volume 24, Issue 9, October 21, 2019
Dear ACA Families,
Last year I found a series of great conversation starters to use with children when they come home from school. I listed 10 alternatives to, (how was your day?) in a prior newsletter. I have since found that these are great questions to ask anyone. So, here are 10 more to consider. It’s a great way to end blank stares and the questions are fun and thought provoking! Enjoy!
1. What was the best thing to happen today?
2. Did you help anyone today?
3.Did you tell anyone “thank you”?
4.Who did you sit with at lunch?
5.What made you laugh?
6.Did you learn something you didn’t understand?
7. Who inspired you today?
8.What was the peak and the pit?
9. What was your least favorite part of the day?
10. Was anyone in your class gone today?
Happy talking!
Mrs. Keller
Primary Teacher
GENERAL NOTES
Minimum Days: Thursday (10/31) & Friday (11/1) – student pick up is at 12pm
October 31st Holiday Events (all events are optional)
This day is a normal school day for all students, except students will be able to wear their costumes to school if they choose. No masks, weapons, or gore are allowed. Students must still be able to participate in learning, so no costumes which would hinder school work (school dress codes still apply).
Parade & Trick or Treating: At 11:30am, there will be a costume parade & “Trick or Treating” around the campus. Parents are welcome to come watch. Students who do not want to participate will have a supervised room set-aside for them where they can play board games during the activities, or they can be signed out by a parent/guardian at 11:30am.
Haunted House: Our annual “Haunted House” will run from 12~12:45. This is an age appropriate haunted house put on by the Middle School Fundraising Elective. Cost is $3 per student or $5 for 2 students.
Electives: Believe it or not, it is time to start planning for our 2nd trimester (12/2-3/6). Afternoon electives for our 4-8th grade students start on Monday, December 2nd, and run from 2:05-3pm on Mon, Tues, Thurs, & Fridays (Fridays are for Middle School students only).
We are looking for adults who are willing to teach/supervise an assortment of activities. The elective program at our school is vitally important part of our curriculum. These classes offer students the opportunities to explore new areas of interest, opening their minds to new possibilities for themselves. Our hope is to offer at least 9 different options for students to choose from on each day. This is only possible if our wonderful ACA community volunteers to help!!
Ideas for classes are: arts & crafts, sewing, language classes (ASL, Spanish, Chinese, etc), sports (basketball, kickball, soccer, softball, ultimate frisbee, etc), cooking, assorted card/board/strategy games, yoga, photography, drama, extra work time, and the list can go on and on – teach what you enjoy!
If you can donate an hour of your time, once a week for the next trimester, to help teach or supervise a class, please let us know ASAP!!! You can also team up with a friend to teach a class, and you do not need to have a student in the 4-8th grade classes to help!!
If you are interested in teaching a 2nd trimester elective, respond to this email, or let the office know by October 25th!
Arrival Time & Dismissal Time: Gates open and supervision begins at 8am, the first bell rings at 8:10am, and class begins at 8:15am. It is important to make sure your student arrives on time for class. Please help us out by dropping your student off no earlier than 8am and exiting the carpool line by 8:15am. School ends at 3pm on M, T, Th, & F, and 2pm on W for 1st-8th grade. Minimum days end at 12pm. Please be punctual in picking up your student(s).
Absences and Tardies: If you student will be absent, or tardy, please call the office at 925-755-7311, or email you student’s classroom, before 8:30am. If you do not notify the school, the absence will go on your student’s permanent attendance record as unexcused.
CARPOOL and CROSSWALK Procedures REMINDERS: Please use the crosswalk if you are walking in or out of the school. You can also walk up the hill by the park and exit through the park. Please do not walk through the carpool lane. The carpool lane is for cars only. Please help teach your students safe procedures when walking in and out of school.
Charter Council: the Charter Council is our governing board. They meet on a monthly basis – usually the first Thursday of the month. Please check the calendar for the next meeting date/time, or call the office at 925-755-7311. These meetings are open to the public!
