HET THEME: Our theme for first trimester is Community. Last week, students thought about communities that they are a part of and began to categorize aspects of communities. This week, students will be thinking more about how they can make change within communities to make them more positive, more active, and communities that people want to join. This will lead to our first SPA (Social Political Action) Project.
Homework:
Reading:
Students need to join both of my google classes using their new gmail account. We will do this at school, but if they are not present the classroom codes are:
Social Studies: dxfcpi
There will be 3 Book talks or book review check-ins each trimester. These check-ins are where I update my grade book with the student’s progress towards their reading goal of 900 pages. Students do not have to present on these dates, they can present as soon as they finish a book. The schedule for this trimester is:
- first 9/12, second 10/17, third 11/14.
After each of those dates the grade book will be updated with each students books read score. They can complete book talks/reviews early or later, but 11/14 is the final day any book talk or review will be accepted for the trimester.
Article of the Week (A.O.W.):
Each week students will receive an article of the week (AOW) to read. Students are required to:
1. Read the article
2. Discuss the article with one of their parents or guardians (whoever discusses the article should also read it)
3. Respond in writing to the questions in the google classroom assignment.
The article for this week can be found here and in the Language Arts google class.
