ACA II 8th Grade Graduate Goals – Goal #9
We would like to share a little more information about our nine ACA II Graduate Goals. These goals have been around as long as ACA II and all of our students work toward leaving ACA II after 8th grade with these skills. The skills included in these goals are important to success in our students’ later academic studies, as well as the workplace. Each level works hard to practice all nine goals.
Goal #9: Feel empowered to make change.
Primary: The Primary students participate in Coastal clean-up and contribute to various canned food drives and penny drives for different charities.
Elementary: Students learn to make positive changes to themselves and the community by participating in activities like Coastal Cleanup, and some fundraising programs.
Intermediate: All students participate in Coastal Clean-up each year in order to positively impact our school environment. Students create committees to organize and lead Social Political Action projects. Most projects involve raising money for organizations. In the past students have raised money for the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the World Wildlife Federation, the American Red Cross, and Make-a-Wish foundation.
Middle School: Students complete three Social Political Action projects each year. First, students research and analyze current issues, at least one local/national and one global per year. After choosing an issue, students design and execute their own projects. Past examples include fundraisers, awareness-raising, volunteering, and collecting items for donation. Most projects culminate with a presentation in which students share what they learned from researching and what they accomplished during their service.
Valentine’s day is around the corner
So you know what that means?!?!? It’s Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Brentwood, CA fundraiser time!
Please bring in the attached flyer or show it on your phone when you purchase your treats at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory on Friday 2/9! We will receive 20% of sales from our fliers! Fliers are also available in the office.
Walkathon Updates!
The Walkathon is scheduled for Friday, March 23rd!
We thank those who have stepped up to join our team, but we still have slots to fill!
We need a Volunteer Coordinator Apprentice. It is so important to have a parent shadow our VC this year. This job will be vacant next year because our existing VC’s student is graduating!

Duties: Work with the existing VC, to monitor the Sign-up Genius and report openings and needs to the communication director. Work with Course Manager to assign day-of volunteers to their respective jobs, man the sign-in sheets, distribute name tags, and direct volunteers to their stations on the day of the event.
Also, we need lots of copies of the Walkathon Packets. If you or your company would like to donate copying services, we will need about 1000 copies total in the next coming weeks. Please let our Chairperson know asap by emailing Laurie at thehawleyhome@yahoo.com
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, February 13th, at 3:15 in the Primary Classroom (Room 9).
Hope to see you there!
ACA & ACA II have been accepted as LEA’s for Special Education!
We are excited to announce that ACA and ACA II have been accepted by the El Dorado Charter SELPA to be their own LEA’s for special education. This means that starting next school year, our schools will be our own service provider for all special education services. Work will begin very soon on building the special education program in order to take over these duties in August. Look for more information to come as we move through this process at 2nd Cup of Coffees and in the newsletter. We will also be having another parent meeting about special education in the spring. If you missed the last parent meeting, you can view our presentation at http://goo.gl/DcRpKf.
