Third Trimester Research Projects
Topic choices for third trimester research projects went home today and are due on Thursday. All students will be doing a state report on one of the 49 states that are not California. The timeline and project guidelines for this research project are on the back of the choice sheet. Miss Albertoni will also be reviewing the project expectations in social studies class.
New Curriculum for the Third Trimester
Third trimester topics dealing with the mini theme of Progress are underway. Social studies will be focusing on the Constitution and western expansion. Science will be working on gravity, force, light, and sound, while STEM begins the unit on collisions. As with every American History year, topics of inclusion of all people and historical oppression are addressed. All three skills groups are reading books with topics that include oppression and segregation, as well as unique aspects of American culture.
Science Fair Projects
At this point, students should be writing the conclusion and beginning to put together the display board for their science fair experiments. Mrs. Gonzalez will be helping students finalize their projects this week in class. All projects are due in science class next week. Projects will be on display at Intermediate Celebration Night on April 27th along with each student’s Young Authors book and projects from the Walk-Through.
REMINDER: students should be collecting the materials they need for their covers. All cover material should be turned in by Friday 4/7. Students may make a fabric cover or a cardstock cover. Here is a description of what your student needs to bring in if they are making a fabric cover so that they can bind their book:
2 pieces of cardboard or foam board (called foamies-soft/flexible):
8 ½ X 11 or 9 x 12 size, at least 6mm or ¼ inch thick, thin foam will not work
½ yard of cotton fabric (the 18 x 21 inch fabric squares are big enough):
Please no fuzzy fabric, felt, or fabric with holes, it will not stick to the glue
