ACA II Cultural Day
ACA II
02/08/2012
Hello ACAII Families,
We had our first meeting to discuss the details for Cultural Day. If you were interested and still wanted to participate, here is some information. Please don’t hesitate to contact me, Mimi Kessler, at mimi_kessler@yahoo.com. Our staff liaisons are Miss Dubitsky, Mrs. Hummel and Mr. Hagan. Thank you in advance for volunteering your time.
What is Cultural Day?
We, as parents, get to share our culture with the children. This fun event started out at ACA as a way to introduce the kids to the diversity of the families. It alternates with Science and Art every year. So, every three years we are able to provide this world tour of the cultures represented at our school. We had our first Cultural Day in 2009. You can share any information, demonstrations, (i.e. music or dance), artifacts, crafts, activities, video, pictures and food. It doesn’t have to be your culture. It can be one you are interested in.
When and where is it?
Thursday, March, 8th. This is a whole school event so we would like to have two groups. Our first group will be from 10:30am – 12pm. Second group is from 1pm – 2:30pm. It will be held at Paradise Skate.
Details
We will have to provide everything. If you have fold-up tables we can borrow, please let us know. Food is optional but is one popular way to share your culture with the kids. We ask that there is no food containing nuts or seafood to be on the safe side.
We want to try and keep all the kids engaged. When thinking of information and activities, please keep in mind that we will have K-7th grades.
Countries/Cultures Represented
As of today, we have the following represented.
China, Japan, Hopi Indians, Mexico (maybe)
Germany, Ireland, El Salvador (maybe)
Italy, Sweden, Nicaragua (maybe)
I know that the kids have either been studying a country or have done reports on one so some of the legwork could be already done for you. We have some parents interested in supporting someone on a booth so that is always on option if you do not want to head one. Please consider volunteering to make this a fun day for all the kids.
Timeline
Tuesday, Feb. 14th – We would like to have parents decide if they are going to have a booth by this date. We don’t want you to run out of time to plan.
Please keep in mind that we will be on break from Feb. 20-24.
We would like to setup another meeting a few days before the event. It is tentatively set for Monday, March 5th.
Thank you,
Mimi Kessler
